Static and Dynamic Explained

In this article, the Static and Dynamic Content Sections will be explained as well as the difference between them. What makes a Content Section Static or Dynamic depends on it's setup and based on that, determines how and when the product finds the document or template that is to be the Content Section.

Static Content Sections

Static Content Sections are setup in the master template pointing directly to the document or template (depending on the choice). The product (due to the setup of the Content Section) knows before run/merge time where the template or document lives in SharePoint.

Dynamic Content Sections

Dynamic Content Sections are setup in the master template referencing a Data Tag which returns a URL as data. The URL is pointing to a document or presentation inside SharePoint. This makes the Content Section dynamic due to the product having to locate the document during merge time.
